Reality TV has had unrivaled sticking power in television entertainment because of its cheap production value and immediate draw of an interested audience. Some of this is the moral superiority the audience is able to feel over the other people, but a lot of it comes from emotional connection made with the people on the show that doesn’t require deep narrative character development.
